The client owns an existing home located in St-Hyppolite, Quebec. They wished to demolish the existing building, possible retain a portion of the foundation, and build a new custom designed home on this lot. The proposed house is intended to be built to a size and at a budget which will be appropriate to the setting and to the possible potential resale.
The architects achieved a cottage that fits into its semi-rural context, with a simple, contemporary rustic design. The building is situated across the road from Lac Echo, and the mostly forested site provides privacy and offers minimal views. However, the sloping site presents the opportunity for a garage and walkout basement on the lower floor. The project is regulated by SPAIP by-laws, ensuring the architectural design will necessarily be contextual to the neighbouring established building vernacular.
